Aug. 31st, 2005 10:24 pmSo Katrina hit and New Orleans is wrecked by it. I really don't have
words for all of it. I have friends in New Orleans and of course there
is no way to get a hold of them to find out if they are safe, so I
worry about them. My best friend who is having health issues of her own
is worried about her sister in MS, who has been without power since
that bitch hit on monday. Fortunately they have heard from her and know
everyone there is okay but yeah still no power and late August in MS
with no air conditioner is not a pleasant experience. It beats the
alternative though which could be a hell of alot worse. But damn. It's
gonna take monthes for all of this to settle out.
Roomie has been in Houston all week. He'll be returning tomorrow. The job he was supposed to do in Beaumont has been delayed because they could not get him a hotel room. Refugees from Katrina are there too. So rooms are scarce. He has something going in San Antonio on friday so seeing him home tomorrow night is no great big deal to me. Means his weekend will not be upended by travel from Houston to the house in Labor Day traffic which is a good thing. I cannot believe how the oil companies are jacking gas prices right now.
Interesting the Lexicon had RAB as Regulus Black yesterday and took that down today. Wonder why they did that. The only thing I can think of is the information true or not was considered unreliable for some reason. I personally think RAB=Regulus Black but it would be just like JKR to throw another joker in the deck. I wonder if we will have even more questions when book 7 is out and canon is finished. I know JKR has done alot to protect the story and I suspect this round of interviews was also about protecting the story. She has in the past not given answers to questions because to give them would in her words give too much away. Her answers to questions concerning Snape are a good example of that. She has really never said much about him other than he is a "deeply horrible person" when asked specifics she has always backed off. I do think Snape is the reason she did say there were DEs who were not purebloods myself. I also think Snape, Voldemort and Harry make up some sort of unholy trinity of wizards central to the story with more similarities than disimilarities. I find myself wondering if Snape was actually raised by his parents or taken away from them by the Princes for some reason(either the parents died or were unable to raise him?). If so it would fit. All three are half-bloods according to wizarding genetics. Both LV and Harry had shit childhoods. Snape had an awful adolescence. There are some real similarities and no I don't have a fullblown theory, just thoughts about it.
I think that JKR has protected the story quite well but she has left clues and someone will put them together and come up with the ending we will see when she finally gets it written and published. I applaud her choice to spend time with her daughter as a parent, as a fan of the books I am not happy with it but yeah I respect it. I just hope she gets on a roll with it and it comes out fast. I am still waiting for novel length fanfiction that incorporates HBP and that will come soon I am sure. Some of it is out there but not in any OTP I read and the gen stuff I have been reading is interesting.
Right now everyone in fandom and out of it seems more concerned with the RL stuff of Katrina and yeah I can understand that. I read fanfic to get away from that, but yeah I am concerned about my friends out in LA and glad my former in-laws no longer live in MS. I hope that there is a Mardi Gras in New Orleans this coming spring and that the city recovers. Such history there. Seeing it underwater is distressing. Ah well I can hope.
