(no subject)

Has the MLC finally died? I was looking at SH this morning and the notice is up they will no longer accept challenge responses for the MLC challenge. I suspect the mods were thoroughly sick of validating them. All I can say is thank you, it's about time. WIKTT issued the challenge 2yrs ago with and end date of a yr ago, and people are still writing that story and for the most part it's pretty much a paint by the numbers challenge. And there was a very dark chuckle on my part when it was revealed in HBP that Snape had a muggle father(canonshafted ALL of the MLC stories with him as the groom right there). Snape was obviously who JKR meant when asked if all of the DEs were purebloods and she'd said no they weren't. So, yeah dead challenge finally. Since SH is pretty much now the largest ss/hg archive around. I guess they'll still be at the Pit of Voles, but since PoV is not known for great writing I can live with that. Come to think of it I have seen very few MLC stories that started post HBP. I can't think of any that I am currently following.

Then again I am not following much in the SS/HG ship lately anyways. For some reason fanfiction is not really ripping out any great stories right now. The 'good' writers are still digesting the new canon and what has come so far is one shots and short shots, the novel length stuff is still in their heads or on hard drives not released to the general fandom yet. I suspect in a little while we will see some glorious work based on new canon and it will be good for people like me who only read it, but don't write it.

Went over to F_W yesterday, the Harmonians are at it again with a petition this time for an apology for the 'delusional' comments and JKR's laughing with the interviewers who made the remark. Now I agree, she should not have laughed but these people are really out there with the demands that she restore their OTP as the one true pairing in the books. She basically made it obvious from the get that it would end up being R/Hr and H/G and yeah I find both pairings yucky myself for my own reasons but she's writing them and making the bucks not me. So I read fanfic for my OTP, cause I know SS and HP will never ever be friends in JKR's books but yeah I like them in bed together. I've pretty much gotten away from SS/HG as a couple since Hermione has become such a sue in the fanfic. Not all of them but a good percentage of the fanfic is some other person who just coincidentally happens to have the name Hermione Granger and goes to Hogwarts with Harry and Ron but she aint the character JKR created and she aint even remotely the person I think of when I read the books.

So I read slash and enjoy it. But no I don't read H/D and I know the H/D writers are already producing good post-HBP work but I really never cared for Draco. As much as I felt sorry for him in HBP part of me said he let DEs into the castle so he isn't a good guy yet and may never be. Best thing Draco and Narcissa can do now is get the hell outta dodge while they still live.  Right now the mood for the HP series to me is impatience, I want to know how it ends damnit and I know I got a two yr wait for the last one, minimum. So yeah I am a bit testy about that, I want good fanfic soon and I want more than ficlets and one shots soon. I know the fandom will give them to me soon and I can't wait for that either. No patience at all.
