Well the friending frenzy is over and I picked up some new friends. [livejournal.com profile] mctabby really does do a lot for the fandom.  She's actually a BNF in a very good way. I remember reading her PtoQ parody "Strega of Borg" yes ago and just rolling on the floor laughing so hard I thought I'd wet myself. Anyways keeper of the gnormous birthday list for fandom, owner of the "Blame it on ... " challenge, purveyor of Darklord News  I don't think I've ever seen wank concerning her around the fandom or on fandom_wank. I doubt I ever will. Just an extraordinary person who gives alot to the fandom.

Now since I got a bunch of new friends and I don't care much about making this an flocked post, time to give a little information about me. So you get an idea beyond that short pimpage I gave in the frenzy. I am a fan who has been involved in fandom longer than some of you have been alive. I date my fandom activity back to 1975 when I was in 10th grade and got involved in organising and attending a Star Trek con that my HS and two other school's Star Trek fan clubs got together and organised. I was reading 'zines then. And I was even then a slasher. Yes slash was in it's infancy but the idea of Kirk and Spock was just too good to pass up. I dropped out of fandom for awhile until the mid-80s when someone in college handed me some profic(Trek) and I went looking for fanfic again. The Trek community had a snail mail based group called the Welcomittee that would send information about fan groups in your area if you wrote and sent a postage paid selfadressed envelope. These folks were volunteers and several different BNFs in Trek ran it at one time or another. I always had a way to find 'zines and such thanks to them. I got away from cons because they became corporate things with companies organising what the fans had previously done and running it at a profit. The Internet really brought me back into fandom when I was in grad school. I quickly got hooked up with fandom online and kept up with Trek for many yrs that way. Also got into Highlander. Then in 2001 I saw the first Harry Potter movie. I was hooked so I got the first 4 books and went through them in about a week. From the books I went straight to the Pit o' Voles and Google. I wanted the fanfic and I found it. I never got into the Yahoo groups, just couldn't be bothered. And yes I was late to LJ. I didn't get into it until summer 2004. Now, I'm hooked on it. I check the flsit and read it pretty much daily. I may not comment alot but I DO read just about everything on it. I am pretty Snapecentric, I read fanfic that tends to focus on him, even though he aint the star of the books, his character, not Harry kept me reading. I don't think we have all the answers yet and book 7 may well raise more questions to me. But I am along for the ride and used to open canon. Saw some fandoms just about die when canon closed. I don't see that happening here, but it may.

A bit of the personal in case you're interested. I am 46(not ashamed of it, just surprised I lived this long). My kids are grown and on their own. My daughter who is my youngest just completed her undergrad studies and is doing a gap yr before law school. My son who will be 24 next month(!) is still finding himself. I'm divorced but live with a roomate and occasionally in flocked posts I write about him and his life. I lock those for his privacy and I don't really comment much on his life other than he's traveling this week or not. He does travel with his job. I love to drink diet coke and my favorite alcohol these days is beer. I vote democratic and have done so for yrs. I don't think the republican party has anything to offer me or anyone who is not white, male and already making a bundle of money. I love kittyspam and if you post pics of your cats I will be sure to comment. I'm not much for posting memes but I do them. I read lots of fic and occasionally will rec it if it hits me. I am originally from San Francisco but live in Austin TX now. I like Austin, good place to live. About as liberal as TX gets. I get a charge out of hitting thrift stores and getting bargains. Last run I got a silk Liz Claiborne blouse for $1.25 and it fit. Also got a George Forman grill for $2 and it works. So yeah that's a thumbnail sketch of me. Welcome aboard new folks.
