American Idol and Other Things
Apr. 5th, 2006 08:50 pmWell that was a shocker. Tonight was elimination night and NONE of us got it right! The bottom 3 was a brand new group of 3 and well the one out of it I expected to go wasn't gone. Bottom 3 was Mandisa, Elliott and Paris. The one who left? Mandisa. Mandisa has been consistently good all along and got voited off for a performance that was mediocre, not bad but not great. There were at least two others that were worse and to be fair Mandisa's strength is NOT country music. So she's gone while bad singers like Ace remain. Yes I admit I dislike Ace, and I am not crazy about Paris or Kellie either. I do find myself wondering if Mandisa's Xtian ties and her gospel song aloing with this weeks bad song choice did her in. She has a link to Beth Moore's ministry on her website and that one promotes something called the exgay movement. How can one be an exgay? I find the idea of that absurd from where I sit. Sexuality just is, and no one becomes ex anything sexually. Not going there. Just not, but such a movement strikes me as ridiculous.
On the Potter front, JKR posted a rant at her website concerning body image and titled it 'For Girls Only'. It's about weight and the expectations of society. She really ripped on it and yes it was interesting to read. Of course wank has already commenced. All I can say as a parent of a daughter who went through the teenage yrs is, society has some sick ideals when it comes to women's body images. I never understood why women have to be so thin they can count the ribs and to have boobs must purchase them from the plastic surgeon. The anorexic look is so not sexy. This is from someone who at my smallest (as an adult) wore a size 10. Thing is she ranted about a subject that I DO care about. I loathe the msg fashion magazines are sending girls and I KNOW that boys are also affected these days. F_W will have all the wank you want about her website later I am sure. Some people got upset because she has people in her books who are not nice described as fat(Dudley Dursley was named as one example). Well Voldemort is cadaversously thin and he's the main meanie in the books so I think that one's an equal opportumoty. I don't get the wank sometimes, I just don't. Oh well it's Potter and wank always seems to happen in this fandom.
