Oscars

Well that's done for another yr. It was nice to see George Clooney win for supporting actor. I enjoyed his speech. Jon Stewart was good, the whole opening montage of past hosts saying not me this yr was cute, especially Billy Crystal and Chris Rock in the pup tent together. The best song winner DID surprise me, I never expected a rap song to win. The winners were so bouncy and happy at their win it was a nice moment to see these urban type hiphop dudes onstage after they performed the song just overjoyed with it. I was surprised at all the awds "Memoirs of a Geisha' got, it was a very visually stunning movie but the reviews were mixed on just about everything else in it. Best actress was not a shock, neither was best supporting actress, I pegged both of them before the ceremony. I was surprised Joaquin Phoenix didn't win myself. I expected him but not really surprised when the guy who played Capote won. He really did nail that role. And his speech to his mom was good, I liked that he talked about her and all that. Best Screenplay was Brokeback, not surprised. Also not surprised it got best director. Very NOT surprised it DID NOT get Best Picture. I didn't expect it to. And Best Pic is the category that the entire academy vots on, and some sections of it are VERY conservative. Getting nominated was not surprising, winning would've been. Otherwise it was the usual same ole same ole Oscar show, too many montages, too long and waaay too much filler in it. But you watch it and know exactly what you're getting. I want to see some of the foreign films now. They all looked interesting to me, even more interesting than the mainstream product Hollywood celebrates. It's done and something else will excite next week I am sure. Now we can get over Brokeback which I DO think was hyped and overhyped. I read the short story, didn't care for it, and decided not to go see the movie. Might rent the DVD though.

Not much else happening here, Roomie has to travel tomorrow so I get the house to myself and I will be recording American Idol for him this week.
