(no subject)

Today is an unusual day in TX history. Historically it is said that the black slave population of the state were told that they were freed under Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation on this date. It's been a celebrated day in the black community ever since. It's also a state holiday when it falls on a weekday which I think is cool. Roomie is out crusing on his motorcycle which is a great stress reliever for him and I am doing laundry, so we both have clean clothes.

There has been some wankage over the Lucius Malfoy post last week on Potter_Cliche. I can understand that. Lucius is a controversial character in some ways and some of the more flippant remarks were not taken in the spirit I hope they were meant. I am no Malfoy fan myself. I think both Draco and Lucius are slimy little tossers who will get theirs in the end, but I can see why some would not agree with me and I tend to be pretty much live and let live about it. It's fandom for God's sake, not national policy or something more important.

Another bit of wank which I only caught peripherally involves my old "friend" fpb.   He got niffled recently for a story that from all I've heard is quite good. Now I didn't care for "Gay Bar", but his writing is good for the most part and he has his own point of view. So to hear wankage because he as a person is not popular well that bothers me. Because the niffle is not about him, it's about his writing. He doesn't like me, I don't know him. We had our spat months ago over politics and well he has a temper that can get pretty hot. Nuff said. Leave him and his niffle alone. He earned it, and all I can say as a nonwriter is congrats Dude, you got some recognition. Now I need to read the story and see if I like it. The countdown for HBP is on and I am definitely looking forward to it myself. I do wonder if she will kill a semi-major character or not. She may not, she may kill off nameless faceless folks here. And she may just kill off some Dursley's,. She did say it was the shortest stay yet, didn't she? Perhaps Voldie realises since he has Potter's blood he can attack there? Just a thought folks since I wonder just how effective a blood protection can be when Petunia dislikes Harry so much.

The waiting is the hardest part. And yes I know I am going to inhale this book just like I did the last one too. Even fanfic is feeling a lull here. It's out there and I know some writers are frantically finishing WIPs before canon comes along and does them in. I personally think writers shouldn't worry so much about new canon if the work is already in progress just put preHBP in summary and the reader will know it's using available canon up to that point.

My computer continues to act up. The vid card started going crappy on me. The 20" monitor has been retired because while new to me it wasn't new and it decided the color red was not needed. I decided differently. So I am using a monitor that is not as bright as it should be but works for the most part and I swapped out the vid card with one of Roomie's older NVidia cards after deciding I did not want to spend $50+ on a new one when this one was just sitting around. Now I don't lock up mid action and lose video. I'm not a gamer I don't need screaming video or memory intensive video so this 32mg card does me just fine.

Just finished filling out a survey from VA. They are doing some longevity study and I participated 3yrs ago so they sent another one round recently to me. Damn this thing was long. Over 100 questions concerning care in their facilities, less than half applied to me personally. I answered it and it will hit the mail tomorrow. Hopefully it will help them improve services but I don't count on that since VA has been a budget cut target for yrs.
