RL Stuff And More
Feb. 12th, 2006 02:10 amWell back at home after the month of dogsitting. Me and the doggie got
along okay once I showed him who the boss is. Taking care of him in his
home was much better for him, me and my roomie as he missed his mommy
but he was in a familiar place. She came back and the doggie was all
over her. She says shipping him to the UK when she goes will cost about
$1200 total and she is worried about coming up with that along with
coming up with the money for paperwork to get there and shipping her
household goods. She wants to ship her car but I don't think that's a
good idea at all with gas costing 90p a liter and her car taking over
$30 in TX to fill up. It's a big roomie American car and if I recall
correctly British roads are not really made for American boats. Yeah I
call her car a yacht myself. I always did prefer compact of subcompact
fuel efficient cars. I don't like spending a fortune to gas up a car,
no matter how 'cool' the car looks. Call me cheap or 'green' but I feel
that oil is a finite resource and gas guzzlers on the road just use it
up and pollute so I prefer to use less and pollute less. That's a
personal opinion but one I tend to hold to.
The whole thing with the Danish cartoons and such have me pretty ambivalent for the most part. Yes it was disrespectful of Muslim beliefs and if anyone had done any research at all it would've shown there is no history of portraiture in the Islamic culture. But the protests that have occurred have obscured the real issue here. The protests have gone way beyond what most of us think acceptable. And I ask when I see the protests, who is gaining from them? The people who diss them because they are different? The people who want a fight and don't care how they get it on either side? Someone mark my words is profitting from this. And it aint Mustafa Doe on the corner who has trouble finding work to pay his bills or feed his family. Someone is making a buck somewherre and someone is reaping a whole helluva lot of propoganda points here.
The Olympics are on and I watched the Opening ceremony on friday night. Wonderful in some ways and some WTF there also. Seeing Turin looking beautiful, made me fall in love with Italy all over again. I think Italy is one of the most beautiful countries I've ever visited. The music the athletes marched into was fun, hearing that much 70s and 80s pop was fun. Seeing Yoko Ono was interesting. Peter Gabriel mangled 'Imagine' though. Sad that it's a good song to see it mangled well ... Pavorotti was good. The little girl singing the Italian National anthem was just a definite pull on the sentiment but she was good too. Seeing a Formula 1 race car do donuts in the stadium was just outrageous and yes I liked it alot. I suspect I am going to be thoroughly sick of Michel Kwan by the time it's done though. Yes she's done lots for the sport but sheesh it's her 3rd Olympics and it just might be time for her to leave the stage for younger, fitter skaters. Ah well there's still skiing to watch the the xtreme sports which are fun to watch. Hope everyone on the flist is doing well ... I do read even if not commenting.
